Description

I2C Serial Interface Adapter Board for 1602/2004 LCD

Product Overview

The I2C Serial Interface Adapter from Pro Tronix is an essential tool for any developer tired of the “spaghetti wiring” associated with traditional LCDs. Standard 1602 LCDs typically require at least 6 digital pins plus power and contrast wiring, which can quickly consume all available pins on an Arduino Nano or Uno.

By soldering this adapter to the back of your LCD, you enable the I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) protocol. This allows you to control the screen using only the two dedicated I2C pins. Additionally, the board features a built-in potentiometer for easy contrast adjustment and a jumper to enable or disable the backlight via software.

Key Features

  • Pin Efficiency: Reduces the microcontroller pin requirement significantly, leaving more room for sensors, motors, and buttons.

  • Onboard Potentiometer: No need for an external variable resistor; simply turn the blue trimmer to adjust the text clarity.

  • Backlight Control: Includes a jumper for manual control, or you can toggle the backlight programmatically in your code.

  • Addressable Mapping: Features three solder pads (A0, A1, A2) allowing you to change the I2C address, enabling up to 8 LCDs to be connected to a single bus.

Common Applications

  • IoT Weather Stations: Displaying temperature and humidity while keeping pins free for sensors.

  • Custom CNC Interfaces: Providing real-time coordinate data without interfering with stepper motor control.

  • Arduino & ESP32 Projects: Ideal for any project where I/O pins are limited.

  • Educational STEM Kits: Simplifies the wiring process for students, making LCD integration much less intimidating.
