The 4026 Decade Counter 7-Segment Decoder IC is a high-performance CMOS integrated circuit designed to simplify digital counting displays. Combining a 5-stage Johnson decade counter and an internal 7-segment LED display decoder in a single chip, it converts incoming clock pulses directly into drive signals for common-cathode 7-segment LED displays without requiring an external BCD-to-7-segment decoder IC.
Operating on a wide supply voltage range from 3V to 18V DC with ultra-low static power consumption, the 4026 features high output drive capability suitable for direct LED driving. It includes specialized control pins such as Display Enable (DE), Display Enable Output (DEO), and a dedicated Carry Out pin (CO) that completes one full pulse every 10 counts, allowing effortless multi-digit cascading. Housed in a standard 16-pin DIP package, it interfaces seamlessly with 555 timers, microcontrollers like Arduino, STM32, and ESP32, or discrete oscillator circuits. ⚠️ Reset & Display Enable Tip: For standard continuous counting and display driving, keep the Reset pin (Pin 15) grounded (Logic LOW) and drive the Display Enable In pin (Pin 3) HIGH. Driving Pin 3 LOW turns off the 7-segment display outputs to save power while allowing the internal counter to continue tracking clock pulses in the background.
