Product Description
The ACS712 20A Current Sensor Module is a precise, hall-effect-based analog current transducer designed for real-time AC and DC current monitoring in power electronics, battery management, and industrial automation. Built around the high-precision ACS712-20A IC from Allegro MicroSystems, this module provides an isolated, proportional analog voltage output corresponding to the current flowing through its heavy-duty screw terminals.
Utilizing an internal hall-effect sensor, the module senses the magnetic field generated by the primary copper conduction path, ensuring complete galvanic isolation up to 2.1 kVRMS between the high-current power path and your sensitive microcontroller logic. With a nominal sensitivity of 100 mV per Ampere centered around a 2.5V zero-current offset (half of the supply voltage), it interfaces effortlessly with 5V Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) on microcontrollers such as Arduino Uno, STM32, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi (via an external ADC). It is an essential component for building overcurrent protection circuits, smart power meters, motor load monitors, and solar charge controllers.
⚠️ Calibration & Layout Tip: Since the ACS712 relies on Hall-effect magnetic sensing, keep the module away from strong external magnetic fields (such as high-power transformers, large inductors, or unshielded motors) to prevent measurement drift. For accurate readings on 3.3V microcontrollers (like ESP32 or STM32), use a simple resistive voltage divider on the analog output pin or an external 16-bit ADC (like the ADS1115) to prevent over-voltage on 3.3V input pins.

Technical & Interface Architecture
This sensor module provides a simple, isolated current measurement layout:
-
Primary Current Path: Heavy-duty screw terminal block supporting thick gauge wiring for low inline resistance (1.2 mOhm).
-
Galvanic Isolation: 2.1 kVRMS internal isolation rating between power line terminals and low-voltage signal pins.
-
Analog Output Signal: Linear voltage output proportional to current (100 mV per Ampere measured).
-
Power & Signal Pins: Standard 3-pin header (VCC, GND, OUT) with an on-board power indicator LED.
Applications
-
Smart Power & Energy Meters: Measuring AC line load consumption and DC battery discharge rates in real-time telemetry systems.
-
Motor & Actuator Protection: Detecting stall currents and over-current conditions in high-torque DC motors or linear actuators.
-
Solar & Renewable Energy Systems: Tracking current flow from solar panels into charge controllers or battery banks.
